New owner shaking things up

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 | Miami

Incase you don’t know, ‘Rzayo24′ recently took over The Pineapple Express, replacing an inactive owner. And he’s made his presence felt immediately, quickly getting to work to overhaul his roster.

When he took over, The Pineapple Express really wasn’t in that bad of shape, sitting at 1-2. But he’s made some changes and did pick up a win in his debut – putting up 106 points, which was the most in the league for week 4.

His first move was to obtain his new franchise QB, which he did. He acquired Peyton Manning and T.J. Houshmandzadeh in exchange for Marques Colston and Santana Moss – in a very controversial move. Some felt it was a ridiculous trade and vetoed the move. However, the trade fell one veto short and the transaction was processed.

Then, in another trade that was just one veto short of being blocked, ‘Rzayo24″ somehow convinced Ted Ginn’s Family to deal away Antonio Gates, J.T. O’Sullivan, and Devery Henderson in exchange for just Carson Palmer – who may or may not be seriously injured. Essentially, the trade was basically Palmer for Gates, as the other 2 both are no longer part of The Pineapple Express.

He has since also made two terrific moves in free agency, alertly signing Chris Henry – who returns from suspension in week 5 – and Correll Buckhalter – who remains Brian Westbrook’s primary backup – over the past 2 days.

And just like that, The Pineapple Express instantly have become contenders.

And the rest of the league will sit in fear of the “great Rzayo24.” (Yes, that statement was dripping in sarcasm)

Two Week Review

Saturday, September 20th, 2008 | Miami

So now we’re two weeks into the season.  Time to take a look at where we sit on the eve of week 3.

POWER RANKINGS: TOP 5

1. Robot Chad Henne – At 2-0 and averaging over 120 points per week, it’s clear that this is the early team to beat.  And now they get Steve Smith back after a 2-game suspension, making them even better.

2. Cam Cam’s Heroes – Sure, call me a little bias here.  But averaging 110 points per week is a good start, despite that 1-1 record.  But depth could still be an issue here should any one of this team’s starters have to miss significant time.

3. Ted’s Ginn and Juice – Right now, Brian Westbrook has the most points among RBs.  And I don’t think things will slow for him.  But if Kurt Warner should struggle, things would get shaky since Matt Hasselbeck lacks any receivers in Seattle right now.

4. Tasmanian Devil – Looking at this roster, this is a team I really like.  Aaron Rodgers has proven to be a reliable fantasy starter (though things could change when the weather gets cold in GB).  The WR combination of Plaxico Burress, Brandon Marshall, and Lee Evans might be the league’s best.  And they own the top defense through 2 weeks in fantasy football: the Titans.

5. Ted Ginn’s Family – At 2-0, I might be slighting them a little by putting this team at 5th.  But I just don’t trust their RBs enough to rank them higher yet.  Felix Jones and Reggie Bush seem more like “boom or bust” players rather than reliable starters.  But we’ll see if I’m right in a few weeks.

Prediction Time

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 | Miami

With the regular season now just a day away, it’s time to talk about who has the best team – at least as it stands today – in The Phinsider Fantasy Football League.

To be honest, though, there are a number of teams (other than my own…but I’m a little bias, of course) that – on paper – I think could be the favorite to win the championship. I think the “Hanging Chads” have a solid core group – including Drew Brees (who I love), MJD, and Anquan Boldin (who I think is in store for a big year if Kurt Warner reamins the starter). “Ted Ginn’s Family” also has a solid team with guys like Tom Brady, Braylon Edwards, Hines Ward, and Antonio Gates (if he’s healthy). But I worry about their depth at RB. Reggie Bush and Ronnie Brown aren’t exactly a lock for carries and could easily miss a game here and there due to injuries. And backing them up is rookie Felix Jones – who will lose carries to Marion Barber but should get involved in the passing game.

But I think that “Witness This” could be the team with the highest ceiling. If all of their “core” guys step up and play like they are capable, then his starting unit might be the best in the league. Donovan McNabb could put up big numbers. LT we all know is the best player in the NFL. Larry Johnson, while he is behind a suspect OL, will account for the majority of that team’s offense and has the potential to have some very big weeks. And Roy Williams and Wes Welker at WR form a great tandem. Throw in the potential of Vernon Davis and the reliability of Stephen Gostkowski to get points as a kicker, and you have the making of a potential dominant team.

So if I had to pick (and couldn’t pick my own team) today, who will win this league, my money would be on “Witness This.”

Draft Date Update

Saturday, July 26th, 2008 | Miami

Due to some other circumstances, I had to change the draft date. The new date is now Sunday, August 24. It will still begin at 7 pm eastern.

Sorry if this inconveniences anyone, but I had no choice.

Draft Date and Time

Thursday, July 24th, 2008 | Miami

Incase you missed it, the draft will be a “live” draft held on Sunday, August 17 at 7 pm eastern. Hope you all can make it.

And good luck to those who have signed up for the drawing to be in the league. It should be a good time for all!
