Daily Norseman Fantasy League

Week 2 In the Books!

Saturday, September 20th, 2008 | Minnesota

We’ll start with the Page Division (formerly Division II), as that’s the home of the team currently ranked #1 in the league “power rankings,” UBB’s Bombers.  The Bomber’s took on the Rabble Rousers in Week 2.  Though the Rabble Rousers put up a valiant effort behind solid performances by Clinton Portis and Reggie Wayne, they weren’t enough to overcome the Bomber’s terrific trio of Tony Romo, Julius Jones, and. . .Ryan Longwell?  Yep, Ryan Longwell.  The Bombers went on to victory by the final count of 92.5 – 73.35, and it could have been even worse. . .the Bombers had Kurt Warner and Santana Moss sitting on their bench in Week 2.

The other Page Division matchup saw Dani’s Purple Team battle the Hamburglars in one of the closer games of the week.  Amazingly, despite having a quarterback in their starting lineup that was on his bye week (Baltimore’s Joe Flacco), the Purple Team won the shootout by a razor-thin margin of 97.6 – 95.6.  Again, it could have been much uglier if the Purple Team had played a QB, or put either Earnest Graham or Chris Chambers into their lineup, but a win is a win, no matter how many it comes by.

Next, let’s hit the division with the current #2 team in the league, the Tarkenton Division (formerly Division III).  The top spot in that division is currently occupied by the Angry Dragons.  They strapped it up last weekend against Gonzo’s Friend’s Team, and it was a barnburner, to say the least.  When the smoke cleared, however, the Dragons won what turned out to be the closest game of the week by the score of 73.3 to 71.9.  Strangely, only one team scored fewer points than the Dragons did in Week 2. . .it just so happened that it was the team they played against.  Gonzo’s Friends Team could have pulled out an easy victory had they done something crazy like. . .I don’t know. . .bench Ronald Curry (0 points) and insert Brandon Marshall (24.6 points) in his place.

The other Tarkenton Division game saw the PMak Attack take on dvikings1.  Behind the strength of performances by Philip Rivers and the Giants defense, and despite having an injured Marques Colston in his lineup, dvikings1 managed to roll to the highest point total of the week and a victory over the PMak Attack, 114.25 – 95.8.  Not much that the PMak Attack could have done differently. . .dvikings1 just had it all working last week.

Finally, the highlights from the Carter Division (formerly Division I).  The currently leaders of that division are whodat, as they laid a beatdown on my Space Monkey Mafia this past week to the tune of 94.6 – 74.75.  whodat got strong performances from Jay Cutler and Adrian Peterson, and while Donovan McNabb and Marion Barber tried valiantly to make up ground for me on Monday night, my boys came up just a bit short.

The final game on the schedule saw Packers Suck take on Garnet and Gold.  In a battle of the Manning brothers, Eli outdueled Peyton this week, and that set the tone for the game as Packers Suck managed to hammer out a 96.5 – 77.95 victory over the erstwhile FSUers.  Garnet and Gold started their optimum lineup in this one, but just couldn’t manage enough points to squeak out a win.

So, the current standings look like this:

Carter Division
whodat (speedlod) – 2-0
Space Monkey Mafia (TheGonz) – 1-1
Packers Suck (chadly0102) – 1-1
Garnet and Gold (fsuviking) – 0-2

Page Division
UBB’s Bombers (unclebillybonz) – 2-0
Rabble Rousers (Robert Rence) – 1-1
Dani’s Purple Team (VikingEric64) – 1-1
The Hamburglars (cruton647) – 0-2

Tarkenton Division
Angry Dragons (AngryDragon2) – 2-0
dvikings1 (dinopurple10) – 1-1
PMak Attack (PMak) – 1-1
Gonzo’s Friend’s Team (Gonzo2) – 0-2

Power Rankings
1)  UBB’s Bombers
2)  Angry Dragons
3)  whodat
4)  PMak Attack
5)  Packers Suck
6)  dvikings1
7)  Space Monkey Mafia
8)  Dani’s Purple Team
9)  Rabble Rousers
10)  The Hamburglars
11)  Gonzo’s Friend’s Team
12)  Garnet and Gold

The divisional battles will continue next week, and the schedule looks like this:

Garnet and Gold @ Space Monkey Mafia
Packers Suck @ whodat
The Hamburglars @ Rabble Rousers
Dani’s Purple Team @ UBB’s Bombers
Angry Dragons @ PMak Attack
Gonzo’s Friend’s Team @ dvikings1

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen.  I hope you enjoy it!
